What is therapy and how does it work?

We are challenged by so much in our lives, whether in our mental and physical health, relationships and family, personal identity, or our ability to cope with transition and trauma. Therapy has been proven to help clients develop effective coping and problem-solving skills, improve relationships, make behavioral changes, reduce depression and anxiety, resolve past trauma, and improve overall quality of life.

Everyone comes to therapy with different goals, so the process will look different for each client. In general, sessions involve: discussion of stressors, your personal history, and your goals. The more involved you are in therapy, the more likely you are to achieve results. However, change can be slow, frustrating, and at times difficult. We will stand by you throughout it. In time, relief from pain can occur, often followed by deeper levels of personal satisfaction.

Therapy sessions are 50-60 minutes in length, typically once per week, either in our private office in Savannah or via secure telehealth platform. We provide both short- and long-term treatment depending on your needs.

Frequently asked questions

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. We are bound by law to not disclose anything about you without your written permission.

There may be times when you find it useful for us to have contact with someone in your life, such as your family member, doctor, or psychiatrist. In these situations, you may sign a consent form allowing us to do so. There are also some exceptions to confidentiality. Because we are mandated reporters, we are required to report any potential or suspected child abuse, elder abuse, or if we believe you are a danger to yourself or others. Feel free to ask any questions for clarification.

Can I bring my baby?

Definitely! It is always your choice whether it’s best for you to bring your baby to your session or not. Children (up till age 2) are always welcome to accompany you to in-person sessions. If your session is via telehealth, it is never a problem if your kids or pets are present, as long as you are comfortable. We aim to provide a calm environment where you can feel at ease while feeding, nursing, or caring for your child.

Do we take insurance?

Yes! We are in-network with Candler/Care Network and Memorial Health Partners.

For all other insurances, we are an out-of-network provider and can provide a superbill, which you can use to receive any reimbursement from your insurance provider. We recommend using Thrizer to submit your out-of-network claims.

How do I get started?

Schedule a free phone consultation.

We will discuss your needs, questions, and can help you schedule your first therapy appointment. If we are not able to accommodate you, we can offer you referrals to another provider as well as community resources.
